It has been 30 years since the world came together in Beijing to commit to gender equality, yet the journey is far from over. HOTA was honored to take part in Beijing +30, a powerful reflection on the progress made and the challenges that still stand, especially when it comes to girls’ right to education.
At the heart of the discussion, led by Msichana Initiatives, was a critical issue young mothers who are forced to drop out of school due to early pregnancies. The reformation of the re-entry program is not just about policy; it’s about giving these girls a second chance at their dreams, their futures, and their independence.
Thirty years ago, 189 countries adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, laying out a vision for a world where women and girls are empowered in every aspect of life education, leadership, and economic freedom. Yet, too many girls are still held back by outdated systems and societal barriers.
Hearing the voices of young women sharing their stories, their struggles, and their hopes reminded us why we fight for change. Education is not a privilege; it is a right. And no girl should have to choose between motherhood and her future.
The spirit of Beijing lives on, not just in policies but in the voices of young women refusing to be left behind. The fight continues, and we are here for it.
